"The first time I heard Helen Austin perform there was something that grabbed me. It's difficult to put one's finger on it but Helen's music is both engaging, personal and thought provoking."

MUSIC / Lyrics - Song of the Week

Ordinary Girl

Sing a little louder so I can sing along
Sing a little clear, I'll get to know your song
Sing a little hey yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh

Talk a little longer so i can stay to hear
Talk a little quieter so I have to get so near
Talk a little hey yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh

Ch
I'm just an ordinary girl waiting to see if
You're just an ordinary boy waiting for me

Get a little closer so i can feel your breath
Get a little nearer but don't quite kiss me yet
get a little hey yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh

Ch

Bridge
But you know I'm not the kind of girl who makes
a move but you can;t fight the flow
It's just the way it's gonna be

Fall a little farther so it's not just me on the floor
Fall a little harder so I can fall some more
Fall a little hey yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh

Ch
I'm not just an ordinary girl just wait and see
You're not just an ordinary boy
You've got me

Sing a little hey yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh
Talk a little hey yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh
Get a little hey yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh yeh
Hey yeh yeh yeh

Following the streets and signs

Stuck To You

I'm not waiting to see
I know there are things you need to be
Things that don't include me

I'm not hanging around
I can't wait to be found
I'm getting up off the ground

Ch
You can't quite unstick this glue
'Cause I'll always be stuck to you

You look taken aback
I know it's something I lack
I just hold you back

You can never explain
Why you can't wash out this stain
And wonder if it was all in vain

Ch

You can never rewind
I'll always bee somewhere in your mind
That someone you left behind

You now have people to say
Who to see and what you should wear today
They tell you that you're ok

Ch
You can't quite unstick this glue
It's something you'll never do
'Cause I'll always be stuck to you

When We Were Young

Back in 87
Back when life was small
Oh I always knew
When we were young

Questions went unanswered
Doubts were pushed aside
'Cause we always knew
When we were young

Honestly, we could see
Everything was clear
Nothing ever bothered me
That's how it appeared

Rides in cars and beer cans
Seemed to just roll by
'Cause we always knew
When we were young

Making out behind the school
Making out we're fine
'Cause we always knew
When we were young

Honestly, we could see
Everything was clear
Nothing ever bothered me
That's how it appeared

Try to get that feeling
Of knowing what to do
'Cause we always knew
When we were young
Yes we always knew
When we were young
Oh we always knew
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young

The In Crowd

Sitting in line to watch the show
We're altogether now
Wouldn't it be cool to get front row
Altogether
You and I can stay out on our own

Ch
No one here to tell me I can't go
No one here we can be loud
We're with the in crowd

Got my blanket and my chair
We're altogether now
I figured out what I'm gonna wear
Altogether now we get to stay out on our own

Ch

We're the in crowd

5am and we're still here
Altogether now
Don't go tell we had a beer
Altogether just a few more hours out on our own

Ch
No one here to tell me I can't go
No one here to look and tell me no
No one here we can be loud
We're with the in crowd

Sitting in line to watch the show
Altogether now
Sun's coming up it's time to go
Altogether now

I Can't Cry

Living underground
Sitting in the dark
Is it so profound
That you left your mark on me

Ch
My arms they miss you
My eyes are dry
My heart is slowing down and I can't cry
No I can't cry

I was still unsure
You said that we had fun
You took your toothbrush and your shirt
You took away my sunshine

Ch

High Maintenance

I know that you're just a little ball of energy
But just keep on smiling and soon everyone will see that
You're not high maintenance to me

Just 'cause you run around in circles doesn't bother me
I like you here and you make me feel so glad to see that
You're not high maintenance to me

Ch
But oh I know
I wouldn't have it any other way

I know you find it hard to stop you're always rushing round
One hand on the phone and your feet can hardly touch the ground but
You're not high maintenance to me

I watch you flying by and still you always smile at me
You're working it out and you take it all so easily that
You're not high maintenance to me

Ch

And when you're calm and you settle down and sit with me and
I look at you and I recognize that you can see that
I'm not high maintenance to me

Ch

Any other way, any other way
You're not high maintenance to me

Nearly Dry

Wake up it's another sunny day
Don't you want to run outside and play
Look behind and you'll find me there

Wake there's a smile upon your face
And you know you gotta love this place
Lord knows the cost, you nearly lost your way

Ch
Aren't you glad you opened up your eyes
Take a look they're nearly dry

Wake up you can turn off your alarm
Take a breath then let it make you calm
Knowing you, you'll get through the day

Wake up there's a place you need to go
Friends to see and people you don't know
You wear it well
They can't tell the signs

Ch

Wake up even if you see the rain
They say the sun is gonna shine again
The forcast is good
They say it should be fine

Three's Company

8 in the the morning and I'm still awake
I got a girl in my bed I made a big mistake
I got a boyfriend
And I like him

Get a text on my phone he says he's coming 'round
But the girl's not awake I got to get her out
I hear my boyfriend
he opens up the door

Ch
He says to me
Three's company
You me and she
But I just look at him and say what

So she opens her eyes and gives up both a smile
And it looks like she's gonna be here for a while
I need a coffee
I need a whiskey
So I try to remember how we all got here
I know that drink involved wasn't only beer
What was I thinking
But my boyfriend smiles

Ch

What are you thinking
What are you thinking
What are you thinking yeah yeah yeah
x2

I never wear a dress and my hair is cropped
I like comfortable shoes
But that is where it stops
I like my girlfriends
But not like my boyfriends
No amount of weed or a bottle of jack
Could get me in a room with you two on my back
I had a boyfriend
He's got a new girlfriend now

Ch

8 in the morning and I gotta go
Don't wanna hang around
Don't wanna watch the show
I had a boyfriend
I had a boyfriend
But I don't like him

Toeing The Line

I don't ask advice so
Keep it to yourself
Guess it would be nice if
I could be myself

Ch
Always keeping it fine
Always toeing the line

I don't ask you questions
So don't give me answers
Guess I learned my lesson
And I'll take my chances

Ch

Hey yeh yeh yeh

I don't make excuse
I don't wait for them
I have many uses
And I'll tell you when

Ch

So Stay

Miles apart and miles ahead
Space won't bring you back to bed
Impressions that your body made
Start to fade

If I win it means you lose
If you push it leaves a bruise
All this pain that we create
is it too late

Ch
So stay for another day
Stay, don't throw it all away

Taking score while we compete
But it's only us we cheat
I wanna be on your side
In this ride

Ch

Ch

Why Can't I stop and let you win
How did all of this begin
I have to do this marathon
Can't we belong

Ch

I don't care which rules we play
I just hope that you will stay

So I Sing To You

All alone I'm sitting in the park and
You know you really left your mark on me
On me

It's not that I knew you very well but
You had that look and I could tell you see
You see

Chorus
You didn't even know my name
But I loved you just the same
You didn't even know I knew
What else could I do
So I sing to you
I sing to you

On the TV or a magazine
You had a way of stealing every scene
I cried the day you died

Now every channel that I turn to
Talks about how you never learned to say no
You should have said no

Chorus

So I sing to you

Chorus

All alone I'm sitting in the park
I'm still here it's getting really dark
I should go
I should go
But I wanna sing to you
Sing to you
So I sing to you
